Pediatric compounding & Flavored Medicines
There are a variety of reasons why compounded medications are needed for children.
Commercially available medicines may not be in the proper dosage or dosage strength. Many medications are only available in pill form.
Compounding pharmacies use the active ingredient prescribed by the doctor to compound a suspension or a solution which is more suitable for children.
As an example, for children with allergies, we can make medications free of allergens and synthetic dyes (which are found in many commercially available medicines).
Options and Treatments
Here at Community Compounding Pharmacy we stock a variety of popular flavors to make your child's medicine go down easier. To help with the taste of medicine here's some of our most popular flavors:
grape (also colorless grape)
creme de menthe
Since very young and preadolescent children (and even some teens) have difficulty swallowing tablets or pills (regardless of the time of day or night) a prescribed pediatric medication in liquid form might be better.
Some children have allergies and varying drug tolerances, so we also offer sugar-free, soy-free, casein-free, dye-free (present in most commercial versions), preservative-free, even gluten-free dispensing options.
